About the scholarship

A Prize for the most outstanding original essay on some aspect of M膩ori culture by a student enrolled in a BA or BA conjoint degree, BA(Hons), PGDipArts, MA or MIndigSt. The Prize was established in 1964 and the capital of Stg600 was raised by contributions given in memory of the late Maharaia Winiata, MA N.Z., PhD Edin., who was at the time of his death an Adult Education Tutor of the University of Auckland, and an outstanding M膩ori leader.
