About the scholarship

These scholarships are attached to a Te Ap膩rangi Royal Society Rutherford Discovery Fellowship (RDF) project, ‘Patents and Power: A Critical Analysis of Knowledge Governance’. This project explores how the patent system reinforces existing power structures, particularly in terms of race and gender. The mahi aims to create a constructive space to discuss alternatives to the patent system, bringing M膩ori aspirations and interests to the fore, and to develop a less biased means for driving innovation. The vision of this project is a re-imagined knowledge governance system that is fairer for all peoples of Aotearoa.
