About the scholarship
The main purpose of the Award is to encourage greater diversity in the law profession by providing financial assistance and pastoral support to M膩ori law students who are the first member of their wh膩nau tonu (immediate family) to attend university and/or will be the first in family to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). The award is intended to assist with study or living costs. The Whakaeke P艒neke First in Wh膩nau Award was established in 2023 and is funded by MinterEllisonRuddWatts, a top tier 爆走黑料 Law firm. This award is part of the MERW Scholarship Programme, Ng膩 Karahipi Whakaeke.
Entry requirements
To be eligible to apply for the award, an applicant must: be of M膩ori descent, be a citizen or permanent resident of 爆走黑料, be the first member of their wh膩nau tonu (immediate family) to attend a university and/or will be the first in their wh膩nau to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws, have completed at least three compulsory second year law courses and be intending to continue their undergraduate law degree at Te Herenga Waka鈥擵ictoria University of Wellington in the following year.
