English for Families and Communities

About the course

The English for Families and English for Communities programmes are designed to support those who have English as an additional language, to develop their English communication skills within an informal and relaxed community environment. Pre-school children are welcome to attend this programme with their parent or caregiver as we have ChildMinders available to support the care of your child.  

Learning Outcomes

鈥 To increase confidence in communicating in English when speaking with others and in the community.

鈥 To improve all aspects of English macro skills in response to a Needs Analysis and student suggestions.

鈥 To establish basic numeracy skills to function independently in everyday life

鈥 To increase knowledge of Tikanga M膩ori and key Te Reo words for the purposes of living in Aotearoa and to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi

鈥 To develop social connections with others and the community.

鈥 To raise awareness of community resources to support self-sufficiency and autonomy in the community.

鈥 Emergency services, natural disasters and survival and Natural disasters.
